Our Man Bernie

Today it was hard to find our subject.  But I know there are great people in Carleton Place and the surrounding areas.  The next thing I know J.R. jumps in front of a driving-car and speaks to this really interesting character.  Later on I have to get the release form from him and he pleads to me not to tell anyone what he does.  Here it goes anyway.  I believe from what I understood, is that he takes dead animals and “soon to be” dead and stuffs them.  I am not sure if a normal taxidermist does it this way but owning a pet skunk for awhile and then killing it for display purposes doesn’t seem right to me.

We meander over to the town’s local Bagpipe festival and with all the “Pipers a Piping” we ran into our subject Bernie.  You will have to watch this episode to get a few chuckles and some good ole Newfie humor.

Carleton Place. This could be fun…….

No place like Carleton Place

This was definitely a hotbed for interesting characters. I have a few close friends from CP and it definitely has its fair share of quirky people. It was a gorgeous day outside....man I love the heat! We hit the Scottish tattoo festival & met a firecracker of an old man. Bernie the newf from Wasbush, Labrador. It is funny cause one of my ex-boyfriends is from the same small town (they have one streetlight!) I frickin love newfies they are the best ever funniest people to hang out with! This episode is chalk full of laughs!

Yay! So far I am having a blast filming and can’t wait till we hit the road again. Better rest up before round two! It is a bit of a workout trying to follow that crazy b*stard J.R. down the street. The kid runs on batteries I swear!!!!  Bernie was a good match for him though, spouting jokes and burning J.R. right back he sang me few funny songs and tried to undo my halter top when I wasn’t looking. got killllllled by mosquitoes in his backyard thought I had west nile for sure after taking like 25 bites to my little body. After I got bit in the face I was done being tough and ran to the van. Those bugs love me but who can blame them I m supa sweet.

A Scottish tattoo has no actual tattooing going on, just a bunch of men in skirts squeezing dead cats. Just kidding, I enjoy bagpipes.

JR casted Bernie at the Tattoo. We met up with rest of the family. It was a 3 generations study of Canadian men. I got that great back lit close-up of Bernie pulling his false teeth out.

Today we went to Carleton Place, and we found the best star for our episode. His name was Bernie and he was from Newfoundland. He had an amazing accent and loved the ladies. Meredith and I were waiting in the van with him and listening to the things that he was saying was funny stuff. We traveled back to his son’s place where he was staying on vacation. It was close to dinner time so Bernie, his son and grandson went to pick up some pizza at Mama’s Pizza, and of course the crew followed. While we were waiting at the pizza joint I talked to the grandson for a while when everyone else was busy. He was a cool kid. Later on at the home ranch the boys ate some pizza, played some golf. Bernie was playing me kickin’ songs from his homeland out east. He was dancing around showing me his moves. Carleton place was an interesting place, a lot of interesting people. I loved the guy that was depressed because his girl dumped him.

I was really worried in Carleton Place, when after 7 hours we still didn’t have a star. I thought that a smaller town would be bustling on a Sunday, but apparently not… everyone was at the Tattoo… where we found lovely Bernie. What a bunch of great sports the organizers of the Tattoo were! They let us include our show in theirs! They introduced Bernie over the PA and he did a victory lap around all of the pipers! Not bad for a retired gentleman!

Our STAR is from my home province” Newfoundland and Labrador”. We found him at a tattoo; he was up visiting his son who is in the Navy. The day was great, good weather, and a little bit of travel. It was nice to hang out with a family from home for a day, found out Bernie (our Star) has relatives who own a pizza place from the place where I grew up in Newfoundland, such a small world. Bernie was a great character, day went a bit long and the fly’s were gross. Thanks Bernie, Had a great day.
