I love the concept for this new series. I have an amazing crew to work with and after years of making television, I can honestly say that I have never been in a situation where I was as sure as I was today that I was about to get punched in the head by someone we were shooting footage of.

Imagine yourself trapped in the back of a taxi with a guy who seems ready at any moment to start punching your lights out. Not because he is really all that mad at you or anything like that. Not because you have done something to aggravate or antagonize him. Mostly just because he has a cameraman pointing a camera at him and he might just feel like punching your lights out because you are trapped in the back of a taxi with him and you are an idiot for putting yourself in a situation like this!

What I think I like the most about this new series is that it's completely unscripted and there is a randomness about it all that makes it unpredictable and hilarious. Although it would have probably hurt to get my lights punched out while sitting in the back seat of this taxi cab, even I will admit that it would have been pretty damn entertaining to watch on TV!

Thanks to our location scout the day before, we felt organized at the beginning of the day.  Guelph is beautiful.  The people we met at first were quite reticent...then we met Scott the cab driver.  JR sure was happy to meet him!

Our days can be scheduled only to a point, if at all.  Scott was about to take us on one heck of a ride.  Every time I see that scene of Scott's first fare, I can remember how truly scared we all were that JR might not make it alive to the end of the night.  Favourite quote: "Your pet squirrel was attacked by your cat, and then an eagle flew in through the window and attacked the cat.  There is blood and guts everywhere."  You had to be there.
Scott’s great. Driving a taxi has a lot of down time. But hey, Godot showed.
I wish Scott's taxi was Lincoln Continental instead of a Honda Civic.

We found our star in Guelph pretty fast, which was great because we usually spend a bit of time looking for someone who will let us follow them around for a day. Scott was chill, and when I heard that he was going to be driving a cab for the evening I was like ‘how are we going to pull off having a 15 person crew fallow around a taxi for an evening.’ But we did it. All the different cab passengers were unique. It was a late night but totally worth it.

This show will forever be know to me as Gong Show Central! At first it went very smoothly. It didn’t take us long to find our star… but when I discovered that we would be following Scott in his taxi… that’s when I started to worry, and for good reason! Taxi drivers drive really fucking fast! Poor Shayne and I had to follow Scott, with Mike and JR with his fares… let me put it this way… I have never driven 120 in a 30 zone before. Thankfully there was a 2 hour lull between the first and second fare, where Shayne and I played catch in a parking lot (at midnight) to unwind…

Fastest time yet to find our STAR. He’s a Taxi driver, who’s looking to purchasing some real estate. Got to set up some lights in the taxi for the night scene. Blow out the side of my new CROC’s, while having a catch with JR. Oh well at least no one got hurt.

We arrived about mid-morning in Guelph.  It took some time to find some people on the street but we got our subject for the day when J.R. decides to flag down some cars driving by.  J.R. ran up to a truck and managed to pull this taxi driver guy over; who is with is real-estate agent looking for a place to live.  But because we got our subject so early in the day we had to talk to more people.

The people at “The Albion” graciously gave us our meal for free but of course we all tipped generously.  Just before lunch, Steve, our web guy got something in his eye.  It was so bad that he actually had it looked at and had to arrange to go in to the hospital.  We all felt worried for the guy but in the end he is better.

So after lunch we looked at a bunch of places with the real estate agent and had to rush our subject home so that he could get ready for work which he already was late for.  During this time we had the local paper come by and follow us for awhile; you can read J.R.’s blog to see the link.

Once on the road we picked up this one guy who was quite a character.  Every second word was filthy.  We dropped him off at a place, which I can’t mention here, and continued on our way.

Mr Cab driva!

We shot late into the night for this one Scott went to see some real estate and we followed him on his job picking up fares for a few hours and the first one was a brutal guy who I was sure was going to punch JR in the head any second! We ended up waiting a good hour and a half for buddy to get a fare and rode around the streets of Guelph in vans chasing after this cab at dangerous speeds but hey it was good tv and that’s all we care about! We had a blast anyway I love the crew I have to say & i am so happy to be on the road with such an amazing group of people. I can’t wait to get back on the road I love being in hotels in with this crew it’s like a road trip with all expenses paid! Yay!
